Nakia is a Black, Queer, Birthworker and student Midwife offering support to birthing folks across the Bay Area. Throughout the past decade, they have become well acquainted with reproductive justice with an emphasis on strategies necessary to chip away at the barriers to adequate reproductive and sexual health care. As reproductive justice advocate they are committed to the betterment of birthing people, young folks, and other marginalized communities.

As a birthworker, their first priority is ensuring that those they serve have birthing experiences that are safe and as aligned with their birth vision as possible. Nakia aims to disrupt the traditional hierarchies inherent to Eurocentric medical practices and meet her clients where they are as equal partners.

As a Black person who supports Black and Indigenous  People of Color, Nakia understands the complex histories, traumas, and rightful distrust of medical professionals. Because of this, they approach their clients with humility and speak in ways that are accessible and uncondescending. Nakia listens to their clients’ specific cultural needs and understands that they can not assume others' life experiences. Her expertise in community-based care models, commitment to gender equity, and dedication to shifting the birthing outcomes for Black birthing people makes their approach to birthwork multifaceted and intersectional.

They believe that all people deserve to birth in ways that feel comfortable and safe for them, whether that's medicated or unmedicated, at a hospital or at home. Their commitment is to provide affirming care and support all types of families through a holistic approach.

Nakia would not be able to engage in this work without the support from their loving partner, family, and friends. Originally from San Diego, Nakia has been thriving in the Bay area for over a decade. In their spare time, they love to read trashy books, interact with all things Harry Potter, and constantly change their social media accounts from private to public.
